Future Play Lab: Day 6,7 - September 20th

For Day 6 which was supposed to be on September 13th, I got sick with food poisoning so I was not able to go to work at Future Play Lab. Therefore, I came back the week after which is September 20th. A day before, on 19th September, was the Future Play Lab's Play Capitol Arcade Launch Event where they had a film Tron (1982) screening, then launching the arcade at Capitol Theatre Swanston St. I attended the event and it was a cool experience getting to see Tron and play the games made by Future Play Lab. I recorded footage at the event in order to have them available to edit if I needed it.

For today, since I did not come last week, there were a lot of work to catch up and finish off. The two tasks that were presented to me today was to finish up the Urban Play School trailer and to create a short recap video of the Capitol Arcade's launch event that took place yesterday.

After reviewing the Urban Play School trailer draft that I made last time, Troy wanted it to be more engaging with catchy graphics and moving typography. He also mentioned that it should have more of a brand/style to the video in relation to Urban Play School's style. After speaking to Vivian, who is part of RMIT Creative and works on Urban Play School, she gave us an idea of the style guide to Urban Play School including graphics, colours, and glyphs. With these in hand, it was helpful to build and create graphics/visuals to incorporate into the trailer.

With that, Rosie and I worked together to update and make changes to the Urban Play School trailer by adding graphic titles, intro, and outro. Rosie worked on the graphics by utilising her skills in design and typography to create video tiles and assets for me to include in my video. Using the style guide and assets provided by Vivian, Rosie came up with the assets that would be incorporated into the video along with the suitable typography styles.

The designs that Rosie did was amazing and Troy really liked them and he agreed for it to be used in the video. The use of colours and shapes really captures Urban Play School's style and feel. Rosie sent me the illustrator file and I exported the individual assets out to use for my video. I exported the typography separately from the graphics since I would need to make the letters move and add animation.

Throughout the video, I also added animations of the shapes that were provided by Vivian to make the video more fun and engaging. The shapes move in and out of the video frame which adds a playful element to the video and Troy really liked that nice touch.

After completing this video and it got approved by Troy, I moved on to work on the next small video project which is to create a 30-second recap video of the TRON Play Capitol Arcade Launch event on Tuesday. With the recorded footage I got from the event, there is already content to work with. All I needed to do was compile them into a short 30-second montage to highlight the event and get people excited to come play the arcade.

Troy asked Rosie to create an intro and outro graphic for the video and I included it into the video and made it move, so it's fun and engaging. Other than that, I've used the same music for the trailer and added the footage that I've recorded to create this recap of the event.
